Ever-Changing Library
East Library
Colorado Springs, CO
Following up on the success Library 21c, the Pikes Peak Library District retained Humphries Poli Architects to renovate the East Library Branch a few miles to the south. Though the district was working with similar budget constraints per square foot as the Library 21C flagship, the East branch was in sore need of a full re-IMAGINATION and Humphries Poli stepped up to the challenge. The renovation included all 3 levels of the building, 2 of which were almost exclusively administration space and stack space on the main level.
Complete with a computer lab, maker lab, homework center and smaller day lit study rooms; the new 2nd level of the East branch is equipped to handle both the traditional everyday library uses and the ever-changing needs of a 21st century library. The new entry and reception area was designed to accommodate a new cutting edge self-check out system while re-imagining the reception area and entry altogether to provide a more welcoming space for both sitting quietly and reading and congregating in small numbers. Upon entering the East Library Branch, it is clear that you are in a true 21st century library.
