Transforming A Block
Platte Valley Homes
Platte Valley Homes is a transformation of a 70-year old residential rental project, which occupies a full city block in the historic Curtis Park Neighborhood in central Denver. The project, through a combination of renovation, addition and demolition, will create 50 new apartment dwellings and 17 single family home sites facing Curtis Park.
The architecture of the existing buildings is best described as Post-War minimalism. This was renovated in the 1980’s with a mountain vernacular overlay – hardly a good partner for one of Denver’s most celebrated historic districts. HPA’s design for the site will produce modern living conveniences for the residents in buildings that honor the urban condition surrounding them consisting of carefully crafted structures of specific proportions, details and materials. The introduction of the 17 new single family home sites is a critical component of the urban design solution for the project. Together the architecture, urban design, and program will transform a forgotten block in Denver’s fabric to one we can all celebrate.
